  • Daft Punk ****ing rules!!!

Just returned from the show. They ****ing rocked! It was amazing! One of the best shows I ever saw. DO NOT MISS IT.

I found some cellphone footage on youtube. But it pales in comparison to the real thing. Its 20X better in RL.

What kind of music are they? All I know about them is that Elijah Woods (Frodo) listens to them--from the first Easter Egg in ROTK Extended Edition. Which I highly recommend watching, BTW.

elok - they re-invented french house in the 90s. homework is the essential album, most people tend to like daft punk, even if they don't usually listen to dance music.

nostromo, you lucky bum! some of my mates saw them live at global last year, said it was the best act they've even seen, i'm hoping to see them myself next year.

meh. anything after homework is annoying and mind numbing.

too bad, I got the wrong part from the set, it really got nice and acid after a while. Oh well. The first one is from last weekend and the other one is couple of weeks ago, went to see Dillinja.

I agree, the stuff they did after Homework is uneven. But there are a couple of good songs. I like Harder Better Faster Stronger, for example.

But all that is beside the point. The point of the thread is: if they're coming near you, don't hesitate, go buy a ticket RIGHT NOW. Its one of the best shows I ever saw. The cellphone footage above doesn't even begin to do it justice.

They're a bit boring to be honest, I really like the album they did in 98 (?) the one with around the world on it, but everything they've done since is pretty much same old same old.

If you like original electronic music and don't mind it being a little threatening every now and then grab some chris clark, boards of canada, susumu yokata, aphex twin, casino versus japan, isan, autechre, squarepusher or even the later radiohead stuff.

You need to lighten up a bit... As much as I love Boards of Canada, Aphex Twin, Autechre and company, their music isn't festive, lighthearted and doesn't really belong on a dancefloor. I listen to those groups at my place.

Don't assume that's all I listen to I'm mostly a 90's rock person, love fuzzy guitars. But yeah, the bands I quoted are mostly for melancholic times, hangovers, periods before going to sleep etc but there's a lot in there that's quite upbeat. Add Dat politics, penfold plum, antipop consortium, adam freeland if you'd rather a more pure upbeat feeling.

Doesn't change my opinion on daft punk though, they're good live but they haven't really evolved and a lot of their music is quite samey.
