And we all know that Lancer is preparing to flee the country for the Phils. Could this be the start of a trend??

Security Technician Sought in San Jacinto Casino Robbery
By Phil Willon, L.A. Times Staff Writer

Rolando L. RamosArmed with a handgun and pepper spray, a security technician at the Soboba Casino in Riverside County this morning broke into the casino's vaults, hogtied four employees with duct tape and then escaped with an undisclosed sum of cash, authorities said.

Riverside County sheriff's officials identified the suspect as Rolando L. Ramos of Hemet, saying he has worked at the San Jacinto-area casino for two years maintaining the casino's video surveillance cameras.

"No shots were fired and no casino guests were injured," said Assistant Sheriff Pat McManus. "I don't think [the guests] were even aware of what was going on until the doors were locked down."

McManus said Ramos was wearing his casino uniform and identification badge when he allegedly pulled off the heist, and several of the people he bound and gagged — and locked in the vaults — recognized him.

As a security technician, Ramos was familiar with the casino's security systems and how to gain access to the vaults, McManus said.

"We do know that he tried to destroy some of the surveillance equipment in some of the surveillance rooms, but he didn't get everything," McManus said.

The Sheriff's Department received the first 911 call about the robbery at 5:24 a.m., and deputies arrived at the casino at 2333 Soboba Road at 5:29 a.m. Ramos' car was found several blocks away.

Ramos apparently hid the handgun, pepper spray and the duct tape in a tool belt when he entered the secure vault room, McManus said. At gunpoint, he bound and gagged at least four employees, pepper-spraying one. Three employees were found in one vault, and one was found in a separate vault, authorities said.

Investigators said, at this point, it is unclear whether Ramos had an accomplice.

"We consider him armed and dangerous," McManus said.

Ramos apparently was born in the Philippines and has family both there and in Mexico. Investigators already have checked his home in Hemet and his girlfriend's home, McManus said.

Representatives of the Soboba Casino declined to comment about the robbery.

                A guestimated $6,000,000

Suspect May Have Stolen Millions During 'Inside Job' At Indian Casino

SAN JACINTO, Calif. -- Authorities are calling it one of the largest robbery capers in Riverside County history, according KNBC's Mary Parks.

A manhunt was under way Thursday for an employee of the Soboba Indian Casino, who allegedly tied up co-workers and threatened others with a handgun before making off with as much as $6 million in cash from the vault.

Rolando L. Ramos, who has worked at the casino for two years as a technician on its video surveillance system, allegedly disabled several security cameras before pulling off the heist.

"He is an employee himself, so he had on a uniform that would gain him access to parts of the casino," said Riverside County Assistant Sheriff Pat McManus. "When he made access, he was able to produce a handgun and use that to overpower the victims."

The 25-year-old suspect had a security guard and a security guard trainee escort him into the casino vault on the pretense of working on equipment, according to investigators.

"Despite many security measures we have in place, sometimes decent people do bad things," Soboba tribal vice-chairwoman Rosemary Morillo told reporters.

U.S. air marshals and the Border Patrol were alerted to be on the lookout for Ramos, who reportedly has relatives in both Mexico and the Phillipines, sheriff's officials said.

They released a photograph of the suspect, who had previous arrests for DUI and a domestic violence disturbance, but asked the public to call 911 and keep their distance if they spot Ramos, who is considered armed and dangerous.

KNBC News reported that detectives searched Ramos' Hemet apartment and found theatrical makeup, leading them to believe he may be trying to alter his appearance.

Sheriff's deputies called to the casino at 23333 Soboba Road about 5:15 a.m. had to force their way into two vaults, McManus said.

One of the vaults had three people inside who had been bound and gagged with tape, McManus said. One of them had also been pepper-sprayed, he said.

Seven others in a second vault had been told to sit quietly on the floor while the suspect took the cash, McManus said.

The amount of the loss was said to be substantial, although the exact amount has not been revealed.

Channel 4 reported that it could be as much as $6 million, making the heist one of the largest ever carried out in Riverside County.

Casinos are required to keep at least $2 million on site to cover gambling bets.

Residents of a quiet cul-de-sac several miles away from the casino were unaware of the robbery, but noticed a convertible Ford Mustang left parked at dawn with its doors and trunk open, KNBC reported.

Stephanie Bell told the station that when she and her husband took a closer look, they saw a handgun and a pair of sweatpants on the pavement, "felt that it was kind of suspicious and then called the police."

"And the next thing we know, they were out here ... helicopter hovering, and (it was) quite a scene," she said.

At this point, investigators believe Ramos singlehandedly carried out the heist, according to McManus.
