  • Let's talk about Christian rock bands

First, a big thank you to Rah for making this thread possible by changing the name of the other thread by the same name...

Anyway, Asher the Christian rock band...

Anyone heard their music at all? Why do they do it I ask you, what is the point of all these Christian rock bands...?

Apparently they decided to form because they 'were fed up with the barrenness of their own spiritual condition and were desperate to find God in a real and tangible way.'

Surely their lives were barren because they believed in God? Because frankly it's boring wasting all your perfectly good free time the way religious people do, having to be good all the time and avoiding impure thoughts etc...

Seriously, if you listen to their music it is insipid stuff by people wanting to experience life, but bound by the suffocating rules of religion - like vegetarians who miss meat by eating their food shaped as burgers or sausages, or coffee without the caffeine... The vicious circle of guilt...

What's the point? Why torture yourselves with songs like 'The Gracious One', 'Shout for Praise' and 'This Side of Heaven' - they all miss that element of what it means to proper rock music! Either that, or they're just crap...

I keep replying, but my posts then vanish a minute later.

Xtian rock is indeed very sad and pathetic. I think I actually prefer those dreary hymns.

      All things dull and ugly,
      All creatures short and squat,
      All things rude and nasty,
The Lord God made the lot.

      Each little snake that poisons,
      Each little wasp that stings,
      He made their brutish venom.
      He made their horrid wings.

      All things sick and cancerous,
      All evil great and small,
      All things foul and dangerous,
The Lord God made them all.

      Each nasty little hornet,
      Each beastly little squid--
      Who made the spikey urchin?
Who made the sharks? He did!

      All things scabbed and ulcerous,
All pox both great and small,
      Putrid, foul and gangrenous,
The Lord God made them all.

And yes, since you refuse to take a hint, I changed the name of the title, sue me.
It's almost as if all his overconfident, absolutist assertions were spoonfed to him by a trusted website or subreddit. Sheeple

Aren't you supposed to ban people for repeatedly breaking the rules?

I wouldn't want people to think you were giving me favoured treatment, as that would be terribly unfair.
Is it me, or is MOBIUS a horrible person?

Christians like guilt. Understanding how much of a dirty sinner you are lets you better appreciate how much God loves you. Or something.

I remember a fire-and-brimstone teacher in school who would revel in telling us that doing our best was like 'filthy rags to God'. I think that was the moment I became an atheist.

Didn't Stryper 'go off the wagon' with their lyrics and go mainstream Heavy Metal (yes, I know...)?

On the contrary... MOBIUS is posting topics just so he can name Asher... I don't for a second think he cares about Christian rock bands. He just found one with the right name.

Indeed, when those in power have reason to fear the past they erase it from history...

Why should the moderators fear the truth?

On the contrary, MOBIUS is being efficient by combining his Free Asher trolling with his Religious People Are Stupid trolling. It reduces clutter in the forum. If only he could fit his China and America Are Destroying the World trolling into one thread too.

Imran, I hereby dub thee the Tony Blair #2.

Christian rock bands are an interesting contradiction in terms, whose chief irony is that their music possesses no soul...
