It's not necessarily an or. All of the above conditions could be true at the same time. But it's also quite possible that someone could appear on the present member list without actually browsing the site.

I thought I explained that - by accident. Say Apolyton is your homepage and you're too lazy to change that. Whenever you open your browser Apolyton will register you as being online and won't take you off that list until it refreshes. Even if you immediately go to another site it will still say you were logged into Apolyton so long as your cookies are intact.

Or maybe you check and respond to private messages but don't browse the site anymore.

Or maybe you check Apolyton's vibrant news section but don't lurk or post on the boards anymore.
