UK needs a two-child limit, says population report

Cost benefit maybe for a country, but on a personal basis having a lot of kids are more useful to families in developing nations because they start income earning a lot earlier and don't tend to need education to do what they do.
Of course, but we're talking about national policy.
What an insane article. It points out that birthrates are still below replacement and most of the growth is due to immigration, yet advocates a two-child limit? If they're concerned about the environment, and want to limit population growth, why don't they propose an end to immigration? That alone would be enough to shrink the population.
I also have to laugh at its hysterical far-off projections into the future. Oh no! In 70 years we will have 10 million people if nothing changes in the meantime!

In a long-past misanthrophic phase I used to propose a Campaign against Proliferation of Humans - driven by the notion that people are a problem. Now I feel that outlook to be a green version of Fascism and prefer to see humanity as a solution, rather than as a problem.
Seriously though, as someone with no plans to ever have children, it makes a change from being lectured to for being greedy and selfish.
Nahh-- you are being environmentally responsible
Although I think the better soltion is to try to reduce the enviromental footprint of each person in a western developed nation.
I was looking at the packaging in a hardware store-- Does a screwdriver or set of pliers really need a big box with that clear plastic casing?-- The packaging ALL goes in the garbage. The brand name is usually right there on the tool so all that plastic is just wasteful ( and actually difficult to remove)

Yeah, packaging is a nuisance where it's not needed. We don't want to roll back our gains in food-preservation though. There's nothing progressive about rotten meat.
