2 weeks, 2 years, whatever.
would you want to be 'friends' still even if it were a really sad breakup?

i tend to not talk to them anymore, but if someone broke up with me i'm not sure if i'd want to talk to them still or not.

I kept contact with one of my ex-gf, we broke 7 years ago, and we became really good friends.

But many of them, I try to stop talking, since, I don't want to mess with their life.

and it's really better for your mental health, to stop contacting your ex-gf. Otherwise, you would stick to the past...

Absolutely not! I usually stayed as far away as possible. The only time I ever stayed in contact was when I dated a guy who was my best friend before we dated, and that was just a different situation. I never wanted to see any of the guys I dated again after we broke up.

I am friends with all my ex girlfriends, or was until we driifted for other reasons.

I have never had a bad breakup though, always go out of my way to avoid drama.

Of my two most significant girlfriends one I rarely ever talk to, but occasionally we'll say a few words to each other. The conversation is kinda strained but pleasant.

The other one is now my best friend and I talk to her all the time.

I lost two good friends because I made the mistake of dating them and, when we broke up, I found it too straining to try to continue the friendship when it was clear I wanted more.

That said, time heals all wounds. After years of having lost contact, I'm on quite friendly terms with an ex from years back. I can talk civilly enough to The Man That Broke My Heart ^(tm). And I can be in the same room with the last guy I sorta went out with.

I dumped my ex. I tried to push my "lets be friends" idea, but they decided to be a total ***** to me after I dumped them, so it was alot easier for me to move on.

First girlfriend is one of my best friends now and still a person with whom I can be physically intimate.

Second girlfriend alternates between pretending I don't exist and hating me. We don't talk except when necessary.

There should be a 'depends' option. As in, depends whether it was an amicable parting of ways or whether the they deserve to be shunned for eternity and beyond.
