  • any ideas why my interenet connection slows down to a crawl at night?

    Just started 2 days ago. Make playing world of warcraft at night impossible. I get disconnected every 2 minutes or so. And browsing poly is just torture. I gave up trying to load the funny pictures thread.

    It'll go good for a little while, then slow to a craw. The first night it went out completely, no light on my cable modem. Came back on for 20 minutes, then went out for a couple hours at least (I went to sleep). This started around 2 AM. Last night it started acting up around 10 or 11 PM. Didn't go out completley, but slowed to a crawl, causing me to get disconnected every couple of minutes or so. Now tonight it started a little after 8PM. This sucks .

    I may call the cable company tomorrow, but they will ask me a bunch of dumb questions and assume the problem is my computer.

    I may have to wake up at 6AM just to play world of warcraft .

    Could heat be a problem? I know I've had problems with the cable wire outside running to the house before. Could it be getting too hot? You'd think it would happen during the day, but it is underground, it'll take longer for the ground to heat up maybe.

    I hate this situation. Why are there so few high speed internet options available? The phone company and cable company have a monopoly (or duopoly would be a better word ) on everything. I guess I could go DSL, but isn't that slower? I don't think I'm anywhere near the phone company building.

            Try this:
            Line quality test packet loss and latency, broadband news, information and community

            and to test Wow server ( and also all the trace route that the information is following)

            In CMD: type tracert WOW server ip adress

            Example:

            tracert 87.237.38.200

                  oh yeah and I forgot;

                  reset your modem/router. It can help. (I was actually doing this 3 times a week for Eve Online).

                            this isn't working, my connection works now, and the computer (cox customer support computer) can tell my connection is on.

                              I can sympathize with you, Dis.

                              My high-speed provider had some DNS issues three or so weeks ago. I only deduced that after going through pages and pages of tech stuff on Apple's Web site while trying to diagnose why my connection couldn't load *any* Web pages (including Google, of all things). Heh. I replaced the ethernet cable, checked to make sure a ethernet port wasn't out, ran diagnostic programs on my computer, called the cable company to do a remote test on the modem (which came back fine), changed a few Internet settings and, well, pretty much ran the gamut.

                              In the end, the issue was so hit-and-miss (and has since gone away 99 percent of the time) that the only diagnosis that fit the symptoms was some sort of DNS failure in the cable company's computer network.

                              Good luck, Dis. You're gonna need it.
