    Sarcasm! Yay!

They be prospecting for Oil off the southern coast of New Zealand!

I know that it makes sense from certain perspectives (both economic and environmental) to source oil locally (not that it wouldn't be inexplicably sold overseas anyway), and that at least, drilling in New Zealand waters WILL be done as environmentally responsibly as possible, maybe with CO2 sequestration and stuff - that could even be cool.

But this still depresses me, I really wish the world - and especially the supposably environmentally responsible countries would start firmly focusing on how to reduce dependency on Oil, instead of being hypocrites (there, I said it - a fair judgment or not it's how I feel).

    Guess I'm a hippy.

No worries there, Australia is going to build some Nuclear Plants - since they, you know, have nearly no potential whatsoever to be pioneers in solar power.

            Newsline-Washington

Today the Bush Administration revealed the presence of large Al-Qeada cells in Southern New Zealand. Unconfirmed intelligence states that Osama Bin Laden may be in the area of Invercargill. Former CIA operatives reveal that the Al-Qeada leader may have, according to previously used sources, WMD's in his possesion. The Government of New Zealand is emphatically denying these allegations, leading US policymakers to assume that the democratic institutions of New Zealand may have already been subverted by radical forces.

"We stand with the people of New Zealand in the hope of restoring the democratic institutions that have long served that country. Today I am ordering the Secretary of Defense to prepare plans to secure the natural resources of the people of New Zealand to help them restore their democratic institutions" the President said.

"I am sick and tired of people who say that if you debate and you disagree with this administration somehow you're not patriotic. We should stand up and say we are Americans and we have a right to debate and disagree with any administration." - Hillary Clinton, 2003

I trust you don't drive a car, eh?

                Or use air conditioning.

                  Don't give me hypocrisy.

I live in the frigid south of New Zealand. I DO NOT USE HOME HEATING IN WINTER, nothing beyond the waste heat of my computer. It should go without saying that I don't use airconditioning in the summer - it doesn't get hot enough anyway.

I do have a car, but I use it as little as possible (telecommuter). I'd use it even less but my family likes to see me sometimes. I'm not sure what to do about that. (hah that reads wrong)

I'm a practicing vegetarian - it's better for the environment.

And of course I do all that non-sacrificing stuff like low energy lightbulbs, turning off standby devices etc etc.

My main point of guilt is that I live alone, that is wasteful. When I was younger I used to find people maddening (Asperger's Syndrome ), I'm sure I could cope with people now but I haven't got around to changing my circumstances.

But anyway hypocrisy sucks so I don't bother with it, I just do whatever I can. I am not above making sacrifices.

Well fortunately it's mostly just boasting, he talks **** like that to rile people up, but I don't think he wants to actually be disowned (or crucified ) by his otherwise environmentally conscious family. Still he does own a SUV thing (semi-justified he does go offroad) and he's incorrigibly negligent about turning off lights and stuff, but he's not as shamelessly wasteful as he likes to claim. Thankfully.
