    What? Constitutional? Huh?

Castrating them*, I mean, if it wasn't obvious.

(*or anything with a similar effect)

I understand what you said, my question is what does the constitution have to do with castrating sex offenders?

Castrating criminals has been unconstitutional in the US for decades.

"Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted"

HAS to be your point, but it's a pretty dulled point.

I think that violent sex offenders (or ones with young children), should face their time in prison (punishment)

then should be placed in psychiatric care... (With possible, if requested, castration treatment)

there have been studies which I have seen cited which show that, especially those who rape children, that the repeat rate is very high

this isn't just an issue of punishment, this is an issue of something being wrong with the person also

I think he has Sloww. If you're 35 and you sleep with someone who's 15, it's obviously not the same thing as raping an 8 year old.

Different crime -> different punishment .

I.e., in the UK, if that man sleeps with someone under 13 (IIRC) it's statutory rape. You could argue that castration is an appropriate response for such a crime. It's a much lesser offence for someone to sleep with a 15-year old.

I think in the latter case, it's illegal on a technicality, i.e. the age of consent is 16. If you meet the guy in a pub, you're not going to punch him in the face for being a paedophile any more than you would were the girl 16.

If she was 8, the guy wouldn't last 5 minutes in respectable company.

It amounts to eugenics, for one.
