The only time medical pot propositions/referendum fail is when the opposition can scare people based on interpretations of the provisions, not because a majority want to prevent sick people from using pot to ease suffering.

Marginal voters are middle class midwestern soccer moms. They're not potheads. They're people in rural Ohio and Florida, the states that actually might swing one way or the other.

Richardson's main qualification is a guarantee of one of the smaller swing states, but that is five electoral votes at least...

How many potheads are likely to vote republican? Other than the army types (who're surefire bets anyway), not many.

And saying 'medicinal marijuana is okay' is not going to buy the pothead vote, not nearly compared to the people it will absolutely alienate. They're not all right wing republicans by any means.

At this stage in the campaign, the idea is not to get people to flock to your ideas. It's to NOT piss people off with your ideas. And BR has managed to do just that...

He's certainly well qualified, but he doesn't have a chance this year unless one of (Obama / Clinton) or both decides he's a good compromise choice if neither gets enough votes in the primaries. And that's frankly pretty unlikely.

Medicinal use, that's all fine and good, better even.
They need to legalize and tax it.

"Soccer Mom" generally describes a well-educated, suburban, middle- to upper-middleclass woman in her 40s. They're not potheads -- but they are potetially at risk for cancer, or have parents or friends who already have it; plus, they almost certainly smoked pot when they were younger, and know it's nothing to be afraid of. They are swing voters, and they are the ideal audience for a pro-medical marijuana message.

Apparently, it is legal again in Ontario, for anyone.

This is due to a recent court decision.

Medical marijuana is legal in Ontario. One of my friends, a Professor at U of T, has medical marijuana prescribed to him by the government, and the university has provided him a special room to smoke it in.
