            I'm forever leaving Poly,
            Pretty Poly in the air,

            But good company I lack,
            So always I come back,

            So fast none have seen,
            That away I have been.

Somewhere a better site awaits me
But where I do not know,

So meanwhile I'll be a Polytubby
            A Polytubby just like Sloww.

              East Street Trader sighting!

Now that was an impressive "leave forever". Looks like about three years. Welcome back.

East Street Trader! Rumor was that her husband shot you.

                  Thanks, Laz.

Old posters never die but I guess, like Sloww's bubbles, I have probably faded away a bit.

Nice to see the OT as lively as ever.

He (the ex husband) has got a shotgun, Sloww, but he says it's only pointed at me as an encouragement to make her an honest woman again.

Which I may well do - if our current negotiation over my predilection for playing turn based strategy games reaches any sort of conclusion.

Which leads me to ask (plaintively) why, exactly, women will just about tolerate being a golfing grass widow, a workaholic grass widow, a sportsfanatic grass widow - but if you want to spend time tackling something as worthwhile as marching on Rome or getting to Alpha Centauri they go ballistic?

You need to do what my husband did to me when I got irritated with his computer games. He slowly, step by step, introduced me to Civ, patiently taught me how to play, bought me my own laptop to play Civ on and bought me my own game to play. Gradually I was addicted. So, instead of nagging I sit and play for 3 hours at a time on my laptop and he can play whatever he wants on his computer and he says that we are spending time together cause we are playing in the same room. Remarkably, I agree

I don't think anyone can argue that he is one smart man

I can see that he has a particularly loving wife, Cartimandua, so he is certainly one very lucky man.

I'll act on your advice but I can't pretend to be hopeful. I did get Veronica to look at the screen while I was playing Rome Total War (for about three milliseconds) but the look of disdain this produced bodes ill for your plan.

Maybe I could try buying one of the Sim games and trying your technique with that?

Good call. I myself think Rome Total War is a bit boring, despite my husband's attempts at making me watch his battles, so I understand her point of view. Some of the Sim games were frustrating for me, however, I like some of the kid's games like Zoo Tycoon cause I think it's fun to build the stuff for the animals and it's a very easy game. Civ will always be my favorite though.

Computer games, in my view, have become an art form.

And you are quite right - Civ stands supreme among them.
