It is pop psychology so it may not be all true, but we're definitely animals and much of what we do is driven by our animal nature.

A less ridiculous explanation for the preference for blondes with blue eyes (if there is such a thing) is that those are recessive traits, IIRC, so it's easier for men to know if they've been cheated on. Instead, the authors try to make everything fit into their younger woman theory, and that makes them look stupid.

As for the Ten, I don't think sex drives everything to quite that extent. Especially not the part about Bill Gates being a computer genius to attract mates. Agree the Blond hair bit was odd, I had always figured it was due to the overall decrease in body pigment thats been firmly shown to be a response to solar produced vitamin D deficiency in high latitudes.

The point about Gates is that at that age men have a desire to archive things, 'Great' things, what ever form that may take is completely dependent on the individual and the times they live in. Basically anything that will get you the Fear/Respect of other Men (Power) will give you sex appeal, always has been always will be. I agree that preference for blonds is hard to explain, but I think that there is also a tendency by men to prefer women of fair complexion, and by women to prefer men of dark complexion. Beats me why.

Could it be because dark complected women tend to have more visibile body and facial hair? I know that that's one reason why I prefer blondes.

I've also heard that this is explained by Vitamin D, I believe it was that women needed more vitamin D then men to create Folic Acid essential for childbearing so they need lighter pigmented skin then men living at the same latitude.
