That's exactly not my point.

The point is, more people in the relevant population think that slut = bad while not holding "studs" to the same standard. This makes some women who might otherwise want to enjoy themselves, not enjoy themselves out of fear of being labeled sluts by those who hold that slut = bad, and this is bad.

Then put your money where your mouth is! If you see a girl mentioned as being a slut- argue in her favour against the perceived negative meaning and in favour of slut and stud being the same thing- but not against the word itself. If you see a guy applauded for being a stud, do the same.

The way people use language isn't going to change by generic whining. So a woman who sleeps around is a slut and a man who does the same is a stud. That's only a bad double standard as long as we continue to say it's bad for a woman to be called a slut. Treat them equally and it will be so!

You are forgetting Gibsie that a significant part of language is in the tone. Slut has negative connotations whereas stud has positive, and peoples intonations when using these words indicates such.

You're saying context matters. Exactly my point! Look at how b etor and Jon Miller were using the word in this thread, not being offensive about it at all and not using any negative connotation. "Slut" only has negative connotations if you GIVE it those connotations- as long as people use the term fairly, accurately and without being gits, it's as good a word as any.

But as long as you instantly decide any use of the word slut is derogatory to women, you're reinforcing the image of a sexual confident woman being a bad thing. Even though it might be the opposite of your intentions.
