It's not a "boarding school." Don't pay any mind to skywalker. It is a summer program for essentially the top 400 high school seniors in Arkansas, hosted on Hendrix College and paid for by the state, that lasts about six weeks. Most everything is optional (applying and going to the program, classwork, etc.) and when the six weeks is over on July 21 we will all go back home and get ready to go to our own respective high schools about a month later.

We can't have personal computers of our own. There is an on-campus computer lab that you can use for a limited time, generally for checking e-mail or websites like Facebook. The goal isn't to lock students away from the world but to prevent things like say a kid comes up and spends all his time locked in his dorm room playing video games.

The same is true for television but there's no TV period, other than a few movies and one or two shows that are selected because they have educational value or we can look at them as art, and an instructor wants to present it as part of his/her curriculum.

If Grandpa Troll is reading this: the Arkansas Governor's School is actually based on the North Carolina Governor's School, so there are probably a lot of similarities between my experience and your daughter's. As I understand it both programs are well respected.

Just watched the video...

The one cop might have been a little aggressive... but in his defense, he was dealing with multiple resistive/uncooperative subjects at once. Against him, however, is there was a second cop there when he had two subjects at once. He sould have let the other cop have one.

The video starts with the officer kneeling over a subject that he is arresting and hand cuffing. Nothing wrong there. The video does not show why that subject was being arrested, but the reason for it is largely irrelevant to the subject matter of the remainder of the video. When the officer tells that second subject to stop and stay here, the guy runs. Not the right thing to do. That could be anywhere from obstruction to fleeing and eluding (though I believe that a car is needed for that). That was just stupid.

Bottem line, if an officer is on scene... and on a crime scene... and he gives you an order (in this case sit down here and you there), you do as instructed. Any violation of his orders can be a cause for obstruction charges.
