  • Officers converge on enraged teen after sentencing. See the disturbing video.

10:16 PM CDT on Wednesday, June 27, 2007

    Associated Press

HOUSTON - An angry teen began knocking down chairs after learning in a Houston courtroom Wednesday that he had received the death penalty in a capital murder case.

He was quickly tackled by about a dozen officers, who ushered him out a side door, footage aired on KHOU television showed.

The incident came just after Dexter Johnson was sentenced in the rape-slaying of Maria Aparece. He was convicted this month.

The outburst began when Johnson's family members screamed and cried after he was sentenced to death. One person collapsed and an ambulance was called, the Houston Chronicle reported on its Web site.

Johnson was accused of being one of five people that carjacked Aparece and her boyfriend, Huy Ngo, in June 2005.

The couple were driven around Houston and threatened with a shotgun and a pistol as the assailants demanded money, credit cars and ATM access numbers, according to prosecutors.

Prosecutors said Johnson raped Aparace in the backseat of her car after parking near a patch of woods. Ngo was forced to listen to the assault on his knees as the other four taunted him.

The couple were marched into the woods and shot in the head.

Three others still face capital murder charges in the incident. A juvenile has not been charged.

Who will be the first to take his side? Any bets?

    Hi Slowwy.

I'm not taking his side, but he isn't a teen. And it is BS the article is labeling him as such. If he is getting the death penalty then he is an adult, so he should be called an enraged adult.

Actually, although you came to mind, I knew you had the capacity of reason. So you weren't my bet.

The only thing I found "disturbing" about that video is the fact we still HAVE the death penalty in this country.

It looked like a situation that could have gotten massively out of hand but was very controlled.

Like someone stated, he got nothing to loose. He could have very easily gone for a gun and started to shoot (One of the reason's I am against firearms in a court room. Don't let them in, but keep an armed officer just outside the room).

Also, he should have been cuffed and shackled. He was already convicted, this was his sentencing hearing. They knew what he was facing and should have taken proper precautions.

What city is that where they can line a freaking courtroom with so many police officers?

                          edit: Houston, freaking Texas.

While that sort of **** seems like the reason a death penalty should exist, I would probably stop at nothing to prevent my execution.

One where they had enough forsight to staff it like that, but not enough to cuff the felon (which makes me believe that this is somehow a situation where either a state/county law/departmental policy does not allow a convicted felon to be cuffed).
