I don't know why he saved my life. Maybe in those last moments he loved life more than he ever had before. Not just his life - anybody's life, my life. All he'd wanted were the same answers the rest of us want. Where did I come from? Where am I going? How long have I got? All I could do was sit there and watch him die.

It wasn't murder.
Yes it was.
Attaching an explosive device to a boat - exploding it - someone dies - that is murder.

Corroboration?
Mea culpa, Laz. After doing research to back up my claim, it seems that I was thinking of PETA and not Greenpeace. I withdraw the comment.

For those who aspire to live in a high cost, high tax, big government place, our nation and the world offers plenty of options. Vermont, Canada and Venezuela all offer you the opportunity to live in the socialist, big government paradise you long for. –Senator Rubio
That might convince the pathologically-credulous, but smart chaps like you and I know that big ships have a lot of momentum and huge turning circles. That means it's entirely possible for an overtaking ship to be struck in the stern.
Having overtaken thousands vessels of all types in both restricted costal and completely open international waters(such as this case, why was the GP anywhere near the Japanese ship?) I will tell you there close to no chance of things happening the way GP says.
If I can avoid 20,000 ton supertankers with my 8,000 ton ship coming out of th Suez of in the Straights of Gibralter, the 949 ton Arctic Sunrise should have no problems.
The overtaking ship is the give way vessel, period. The Rules of the Road are clear.
The message is clear: Norway, it’s time to choose people over oil. 35 activists from 25 countries around the world are in the Barents Sea to demand an end to Arctic drilling.
Your "not manueverable enough" arguement holds no water.

I'll wager that your 8000 ton ship and the 20,000 supertankers in question weren't engaged in a confrontational close-quarters encounter in rolling seas. The comparision doesn't strike me as convincing.
And when it's used to suggest a "warlike" stance on the part of Greenpeace, you're crossing the line into comedy. "My words are backed with moderately scratched paintwork!"

Correction, the Arctic Sunrise was involved in confrontational close-quarters encounters, the Japanese were just doing their jobs legally in open waters.
But as you have admitted that Green Peice intentionally closed the other vessel and is responsible for the dangerous situation in the first place, even if they didn't mean to hit the Japanese it is still their fault.

No, it wasn't.
Small explosives meant to give the folks on board time to get off - dumbass GP photographer going back into a sinking ship - drowning due to his own stupidity - that's manslaughter, at worst.
In our territorial waters...............
We'll do whatever we want in your territorial waters. You Kiwis don't have the balls to stand up to anyone. As long as we don't do something so bad that Australia will jump in to protect the honor of its little sister, we're untouchable.

So you think the Japenese sailed to the Arctic and purposely closed a GP vessel to within collision distance? For what purpose.
Simple fact is one side had no business in the area except to harrass and hinder the work of the other. If you can think of one reason the Japanese would close the GP and purposely ram them instead of doing what would get them paid, please do tell.
And you manuevering coment is bogus, so do you have anything else to point to deliberate mischief on the part of the Japanese beyond speculation?
