Anyway, what I did was basically both, getting my BSc in software engineering and MSc comes from IS. It has its benefits to reach out for both, I think you need both to complement the other. Some software engineers are talented enough to get the IS part well enough so they don't really need it, but most IS students do not get the software engineering part well enough. So I recommend both .

Then again depends what you want to do, you know? I recommend the security field, adn you should need both for that one. There's money in it, it always grows, I mean when do we need less information security? NEVER!

this is exactly what I've been thinking.

that's why i'm thinking of not doing IS for BA, but rather concetrating on SE, and specialising in IS laterz.

On the other hand, I really prefer the IS parts of the job. I like planning the core bussines processes and designing information architecture as well as workflow.


Teh security field is good, but had I wanted that I would have went to study comp-sci in the first place, and would be employed in a slightly different unit.

Not to mention that most comp-sci guys are really good, and its the people that plan and design stuff that are extremely dumb. At least that's how I see it in our security establishment.

Depends, the security field and its situation.

However, it's just a question of which one you want to have a strong background on. I chose SE and I don't have to regret it. Then when you talk about things, you actually know what you're talking about, so you're not purely a guy of theories. Because that's what IS will give you, a lot of theories (even social ones) and frameworks and stuff like that.

But if you have strong SE background, you just might know what you're talking about in the first place and not just a person with theories and you'll run into trouble at some point not knowing technical stuff. It's a good combo, it's both sides of the game. It doesn't suit everyone, but I found it interesting.
