Well, fortunately, it seems that even some of the news reporters have grown tired of having her in the news as well:

    for Mika.

Michael Moore was hella pissed that he got bumped out of HIS Larry King interview by Paris.

I actually watched five minutes of the LK interview while waiting for servers to come up. Watching almost deny knowing people who used drugs was great. As well as her denying she likes to drink.
"The DPRK is still in a state of war with the U.S. It's called a black out." - Che explaining why orbital nightime pictures of NK show few lights. Seriously.

I am a bit confused. Is she a top-model? (doesnt look like it), an actress? (obviously not), a philantrhopist celebrity (sic)?

No, it just seems that she has a lot of ca$h. It is sad indeed...
A philanthropist, maybe, but what about models or actors (or athletes or game show hosts or reality show contestants) is particularly worth paying attention to? Engineers and scientists contribute far more to society, but we only consult them for rare blurbs, and even then we edit and airbrush said blurbs to make them palatable and "punchy" before putting them on the air. Celebrity itself is a rather silly concept. I think I've said it before: PH is celebrity in its purest, and therefore silliest, form.

Attractive young female with alot of money and a socialite lifestyle, duh.

She does look much better after some time in jail, probably had some time to sleep and think.

Perhaps it has more to do with US culture. Here celebrities are not on the news ussually (apart from entirely unreliable channels which are known for focusing on such serious issues in their 'news'). The rest would never lead with a celeb story, and state tv would not even have it at all.
So they remain as subject matter only of 'gossip shows'.

However i agree about the scientist point. It is only to be expected that a simpler story would get more attention, and each viewer is just one person so it makes sense to try to attract the larger audience.
I just fail to see how a person who does not appear to have anything interesting to say, gets such air-time, outside of specialised shows which are known for building their content with such material.

I think part of it may have to do with people don't want to hear serious depressing news, and would rather waste their brain away on fluff.

Maybe so, although i am not claiming that that i find this part of US culture to be that bad. If anything it has to be in favour of tolerance of others, nomatter how different they are.
Although i would hope that it is not a blatant promotion of unrealistic lifestyles of the "rich & famous", since in that case it would not appear to be promoting anything fruitful, although perhaps there would be an audience even for that.

and then there's the aspect of our culture which revels in bad things happening to famous people like Paris. It makes them feel good about their pathetic little lives that big stars have the same problems as us little people.

They do? (trying to recall the last time I checked into a hospital for "exhaustion")
