    We all know what Stonehenge is, right? Big ring of knobbly rocks, a bit fally-over.

    So what's it there for?

      On CFC I read a tract from one regular/nutter suggesting that it was a site of worship for the coal seams of South Wales- based on the fact that (like the henge) the Welsh seams are roughly circular, and that deposits from the coalfields was used in the construction.

            So his theory went. It was backed up with copious references- but failed to address how they would have known that the (underground) seams were circular.

                Stonehenge needs to be taken in conjunction with Woodhenge, and the avenue that ran between them.

                Stonehenge represented death, and Woodhenge life - and a procession lead from one to the other, probably in a great annual ritual.
