Anyone here from Hawaii?

I've got five more years in Oregon then it's retirement to the Philippines! WooHoo! However if the US dollar keeps losing its value I'll have to do something. Hawaii is close to the Phils so I thought maybe buy a small piece of property and slap a manufactured house on it and work half the year.

So, what would that cost? I'd need to be fairly close to work. Work is anywhere there's $ people, tourism, or print shops.

I'm not from Hawaii, but I've been there numerous times. I can tell you that it's pretty much the most expensive state to live in, including the price of housing, gas, food, etc. Not exactly an economical alternative to anything.

I'm going to Hawaii for a week at the end of July. I didn't have to pay for the flight or for the hotels. It's the BF's sister's beach wedding, all expenses paid for immediate family and their SOs...

Oh, and while I guess it's in the general direction of the Philippines, Honolulu is still 5,300 miles away from Manila. That's pretty much the same distance as LA is from London. Hell, Moscow is actually closer to Manila than Honolulu is.

i lived in hawaii for 13 weeks!! its just as expensive as oregon to be honest. Though im not sure where ud be able to slap a trailer down. i was on oahu. The big island is prolly different.

I couldnt figure out why a dozen eggs would cost 3.99
i asked, and one of the natives asked do u see any chickens walking around? i guess that answered my question

Lancer -- You work in printing? The US Regional Printing Center for Southeast Asia -- the guys who print all the US govt docs available in the region -- is located in Manila. They're an arm of the embassy, so American citizens have a big leg up on employment there, and they pay maraming pesos (by Philippine standards, anyway). Heck of a commute from Bohol but I thought you might like to know.

I had the pleasure of being there for a few weeks a few years back and managed to visit O'ahu, Maui and the Big Island. I hear there's cheap property in the district of Puna on the Big Island...

If I was to live there however, I think it would have to be Maui out of the islands I've visited (though Kaua'i sounds cool) - but frankly I don't like spam and pineapples that much!

Yeah, you'd be far better off working in Guam with this plan -- but Guam's just as expensive, and nowhere near as nice.

Hawaii has only one mosque - lowest number of any U.S. state. Could be that it's located just opposite from Mecca on the globe, and there's no sure way of telling precisely which way to point your butt.
