    I think I have it.

any advice other than going to a doctor? I can't really afford that right now.

I'm talking about ergonomic advice. what about those wrist braces? do they work? I think I'm going to have to give up computer games.

Yes, a wrist brace helped me a couple of years ago: Relieved pain and prevented the condition from recurring. I still wear a brace whenever using the PC. You also might want to consider taking 600 mg of ibuprofen every 6 hours or so, until the pain and swelling subside.

Move to a civilized country where you wouldn't have to worry.
Treatment of CTS is completely free in Austria for all insured persons - i.e. basically everyone.

Other than that, avoid sustaining bigger weights with your hands; and bend your arms always rather with the backs of your hands down than with the palms.

And stay away from computer keyboards.

Dude, this differs from one person to another. You need to see a specialist.

True. Wrist braces help me if I wear them when I sleep, but that bothers me enough that I rarely do it. Ibuprofin helps for a while, but not long term. The only long-term solution for me has been to take regular breaks and see a massage therapist when it gets really bad (a real one, not a Vegas one.) If you have other repetitive motion problems with your elbow or shoulder, switching to a trackball might help you too. (Actually, the trackball seems to help me with carpal symptoms as well since its a different kind of movement than keyboard use.)

I was in an accident last year. I got nailed from behind by a driver high on Cocaine, knocked me 76 feet or so through an intersection I was parked at a red light.

I held on and bent the steering wheel 4 inches back toward me during the impact.

It totalled out my new F150 Super Crew Cab. I also required a Dysectomy (L5-L4 disc's had to be cut away in spine as it was causing too much pain)

I have been through therapy once, no use (used a brace) then had Carpal Tunnel Release Surgery (Pictured below)

They numb hand then cut it open then snip the Tendon in your wrist area(similiar to a tunnel) hence "Carpal Tunnel"

I had stitches and in about a couple weeks had as much use as I do today. I am going through therapy one more time, to see if anything they can do, if not then either one additional surgery or more likely give me a disability rating and move on with my life.

I soak it, I have tried shots of cortizone-steroid injections, no good.

The only advice is to see a specialist. Mine came from trauma, many peoples come from repetitive motion.

I cannot turn a doorknob or turn a key in a lock with my left hand. I cannot hold anything.

I have been through a nerve induction test and it showed some blockage of continuity in that area.

I have had carpal tunnel in one wrist and Guyon's Canal Syndrome in the other (which is very similar) for about five years now. Surgery was out of the question since my doctor told me that it doesn't actually cure the problem and most people that have surgery still have problems. My mother, who is amazing, told me to take B12 and B100 vitamins every day. I decided to give it a shot and low and behold the pain disappeared. I know this sounds like an infomercial but I'm being honest. The B vitamins work like a charm, but if you stop taking the vitamins for very long, the pain will come back.

I used the B vitamins in conjunction with a wrist brace until the pain went away (it does take about a week).

                    Thanks Cartimandua

Thisis exactly why a person should seek professional medical advice

It could be so many things

It might take what she said or it might take something completely different
