Here's something my mom does that pisses me off.

Whenever I tell here about a confrontation that I have with someone she takes the persons side. And she knows that I'm pissed off.

    Mom's suck sometimes.

I don't know, if I really think about it, maybe it's that I'm worried about the lack of rationale my mom has sometimes. In a religious way. Would I be ticked off if a muslim would come and say Allah will help me? I wouldn't. Or a Wicca says something about some weird tree? Nah. It would be exotic. Intention counts, it might even kind of cool.

I don't think it would matter what your mom had said, it would of still pissed you off. Even if she told you what you wanted to hear; "I'm proud of you, it's nice to see your hard work paying off." Instead she hides your success behind the vail of God, taking the credit away from you.

        That's your mom.

You shouldn't get angry at Christianity for it, because that is not how it is, or how that saying is suppose to go. God's will is not something that is always given without asking, or without merit, or without cause. From I've heard your mom has a had a hard run at life, and probably has a lot of regrets. It is easier for her to think that life is not what you make it, but what God plans it to be. IMO, that's crap, but perhaps without her being the way she is and where she is you wouldn't be where you are and in the position you are in?

No that's not what she meant at all. She didn't mean that God is responsible for everything. She just meant that somethings we don't have control over.

No more than "everything" and "some things" is the same thing.

                Have you prayed about it?

You may think that analysing precicely what that saying was about, and why it affected you is difficult, but it is a piece of cake for Satan.

Unless it's really appropriate, that remark annoyes me as well, eventhough I'm a christian.

Pekka, if that offends you, you won't last 2 seconds in China.

Your mom was trying to encourage you, Pekka. She was trying to say "don't be discourage if the situation seems impossible. Trust God and he'll help you through and you'll be amazed at the great obstacles that you will have overcome."

Let's keep in mind where the saying originally comes from:
                              Matt 19:26
Jesus looked at them and said, "With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible."
'There is a greater darkness than the one we fight. It is the darkness of the soul that has lost its way. The war we fight is not against powers and principalities, it is against chaos and despair. Greater than the death of flesh is the death of hope, the death of dreams. Against this peril we can never surrender. The future is all around us, waiting, in moments of transition, to be born in moments of revelation. No one knows the shape of that future or where it will take us. We know only that it is always born in pain.'"
                              G'Kar - from Babylon 5 episode "Z'ha'dum"
