1.9 million sounds like a lot but remember it's over several years, their income was probably not all that much if that's all they owe.

And the based on the rather low-key government reaction the expense of assaulting Fortress Brown might actually outweigh that. If they're packing enough firepower, do you REALLY want to cause a bloodbath over 1.9 million dollars that you're not going to get back anyway? I doubt the Browns actually have that much in the way of assets to be seized.

I hope they reach a 'modus vivendi' where the cops can just hang out 'monitoring' and the browns stay penned up doing their thing.

BTW, it's surprising just how many of these 'off-grid', off-map little towns, camps, and 'compounds' exist scattered here and there across the North American West (and South-West)

WIMP! You simply can't let the state be made a fool off! I say use chamical weapons. A simple amount of chlorine gas is cheap, easy to deploy, and would end the situation quickly. In fact, biological weapons would be better - no risk of spreading it because the victims are quarantined, and I while some nut can keep a gask mask at home, no way they can fight off some trully virulent disease.
