  • Did you see that Paul Potts guy?

It was quite brilliant, wasn't it? I was afraid, that the cuteness of little children will take the show and I'm glad it didn't work. There were some great performances by kids, but not very elite. Great, but not elite, in a class of its own. I liked Bessie a lot though, even though her singing wasn't the best possible, but the overall performance was really good.

Other than that, I mean come on? Entertaining, sure, but not elite talent. Paul Potts had elite talent, he was the only one who should have won and I'm glad he did, not just because he is the perfect character to win it, but also because he was the only true elite.

It's a different game to sing good, be entertaining or even sing pitch perfect and interpret songs well compared to some damn mountain moving super strong opera singing. Now that's something only few people can do. How can such a voice come from a man like Paul, or even from a man, period? So powerful, it had the power of millions of testicles behind it, armed with nuclear weapons and the badge of honourary supercitizen given by the high council.

Sure, we've seen it before. But still.. it's amateurs. He had to know he was really good, but still kind of amazing that he was so introverted, that he never really went for it with singing, because he would have gotten a career earlier for sure.

Well that's it, Paul Potts for the win, justice has prevailed.

oh, here's his introduction to the show:

Isn't that awesome? You've seen hours of BAD performances, BAD singing, bad everything, and then this guy comes and says he'll sing opera. Right.... but then he just did. Quite amazing.

              Huh?

Also, is that the sort of songs that win this sort of thing?

He won the whole sha-bang. NBC's Today show plans to have him on later this week, I heard.

Hm. I'd say he might want to consider some sort of stage name...

I think Pol... um.. Paul Potts deserved that win.

But he did have some pretty good competition too. Like the guy with the monkey:

I agree that the kids participating had a significant cuteness-bonus, but I do have to say that I Connie was better than I initially thought. Her first round performance was pich perfect, but kinda seemed out of place in the same competition with adults.

But her semi-final performance was better, I think (though some commenters on YouTube appear to think it was worse!). Curiously, the way she sang the second song kinda reminded me of the way Elvis Costello sings.

                        Here's her semi-final performance:

Only the most intelligent, handsome/beautiful denizens of apolyton may join the game :)

MightyTiny, I think she deserved to be in the finals, but I didn't think she should have won. Great singing, absolutely, but the age plays the factor in this one where the performance is seen better because of it. No doubt it was good.

Then again it plays against her, because people like me put the performance down because of the age so... but it was good.

Kinda reminds me of the guy who was famous for conducting Mahler's 2nd.

Wait a minute, was the guy with the monkey actually singing? It sounded to me more like it was just the soundtrack... but I would guess that to be against the rules.
