    Yes. Yes, it is.

It was made in context of shipped vs sold. It was further clarified explicitly for you after, which you still did not comprehend. This is something you need to work on.

of course it was made in the context of shipped vs sold. And the distinction is very important to the businesses of the companies. It is ALSO important to their bottom lines, which are not frozen but will change in the future, and the existence of that unsold stock will be important to the bottom line. As will the impact on software sales.

It IS true that, from an accounting POV, their bottom lines in June 2007 are the same whether the shipped stock has been sold or not.

My experience in business tells me that even in the US, in the most blinkered industries, managers are not so myopically looking at the month to month bottom line as to ignore the importance of this distinction. I presume that SONY and Nintendo are not.

A very stupid assumption given the business history of both companies.

again, you honestly think that SONY does not see the inventory pileup at retail as a matter of concern?

You dont think that played some role in the dismissal of Kutaragi?

Well that certainly explains the PS3's price increases since launch, if they saw the pileup as a matter of concern...doesn't it.

So, Sega falls first. Then Nintendo falls off the map, now Sony can't compete. Is Microsoft going to establish monopoly, or are they going to fall to some unforeseen competitor?

Actually, Nintendo is back and doing quite well for itself. Or at least better than Sony even if that is a low bar to be setting. MS is probably going to be the big man on campus for the time being though.

I can see Nintendo one day being king again, but not if they just keep going for novelty.

have they increased their prices since the first month's sales figures were in?

Yes, in Canada. They increased them in February.

                              It's not just Canada.

try buying a 20GB PS3. They discontinued those in the US -- and they were cheaper.

Sony seems determined to give up marketshare.
