I also don't think you can see Frankfurt's strength in this study as independent from the fact it houses the Frankfurt Stock Exchange, the European Central Bank and one of Europe's biggest airports.
You can't see Munich's strength without noticing that it has by far the highest concentration of Germany's biggest companies. Frankfurt rates average in this respect (including financial services). But this is totally neglected in the study.
New York without finance: still Alpha City
Frankfurt without finance: average European city with about half a million inhabitants.
Why doing it the easy way if it is possible to do it complicated?

The computer business isn't the entirity of the tech sector. Minneapolis certainly has its role there with quite a few multinationals with facilities there but Minneapolis is huge in the chemical industry and medical device industry with 3M and Medtronic.
I voted London, it is the backbone, brain and heart of civilized progress. So naturally, it deserves its place as the capital. If Rome had not collapsed, I would have voted Rome.
America, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Hong Kong, and all other countries - eventually catching up by adopting western (european) methods - are all built on European ways - especially that of the British.

Minneapolis is gorgeous, hip, and full of people who are not only really smart but also really nice. I've never been to Silicon Valley, but I know that makes it better than the wasteland that is NoVa.

NoVA is pretty big in biotech, too. Remember, pretty much anyone who does business with the federal government is here.
