Odd stuff happenning after cold boot

well i had to go somewhere really fast today, so I cold booted my pc.

then when i started it loaded chkdisk.
"alright" i thought to myself. "fine".

but then my firefox profile was gone. completely.
no trace of any settings or bookmarks i used to have.

addons in place.

lucky i had a bookmarks backup.
everything else is deleted.

all the adblock options are gone too.

totally odd.


And... I began receiving odd requests from EXPLORER.EXE to connect to microsoft, and later telling my that "Request to connect to Windows Live ID failed".

What the **** is that?

Who asked it to connect?

Anyways I blocked it in the firewall and used some trickery to stop it from reappearing.

When did windows suddenly remember I'm an illegal user?

Odd stuff happening if you don't make a standard shutdown is to be expected.
