Sorry BeBro, but if the French know anything, they know bread. Germany is home to several amazing foodstuffs, but not bread.

And here, son, you are dead wrong. The croissant may perhaps be wider known, but France doesn't have much beyond it. Germany is home of several hundred types of bread, one tastier than the other.

Here some links of German and German style breads from all 'round the world:

Just google German bread and you'll find a lot more.

Sir Ralph's right, at least when it comes to variety and acclaim. However personally, I find most German bread not to my taste, yet I love baguettes and almost any Italian bread (foccacia, ciabatta, etc.).

Why do Germans serve their Wurst in Schrippe? Most of the Wurst is hanging out of it. Is there a reason that a Wurst shaped Brötchen like the hot dog bun has never caught on?

                            Never thought about it.

Maybe because the standard Brötchen is too popular as it is.

French almost have no dark bread at all, by which their overall bread-coefficient suffers significantly. The French white bread is great, but there's more variety in Germany and Austria.
Vintschgauer flatbread. (OK, that's in today's Italy, but still)

Do you mean Wurst or Würstel? At least where I live, the round Semmeln are big enough for standard Wurst.
