Hope so too. There's one problem though.. I think they prefer people to stay in service. That is, when I'd get my degree, they kind of wish those people to stay and continue doing research. It's not so simple, because they're investing in you, so I would not go about it and lie that I'm shooting for an academic career. I'm interested in the private sector. Because of the money in it.
Then again, this Uni has just established last week a program, first in Finland, that has a clear strategy for the gifted doctorate students, so there's 4 stages, and I'd enter stage 1, which is doctorate student/researcher. Second stage is PhD researcher, which I would enter when I graduate, in 3 years or so. But the money at this stage still SUCKS. Ok, we're looking at something like 2000euros plus. Minus taxes, good luck living in the cheapest apartments possible and not do anything.
Third stage is a full blown researcher for the Uni. I don't know how long this stage should last. Fourth stage is being a professor. So I figure the third stage is just setting you up to be a professor basically. If I'm selected, I can finish the two first stages pretty fast. This would fit my plans and still make me a player in the private sector in schedule. But then I'd be one step away from being a professor as well. You know... intriquing. Professors actually gets paid OK in here. They're shooting at 5K plus bonuses, and have lots of additional means of extra income (if you publish something, consulting etc.), plus they get benefits and sent all over the world more than students are.
So if I'd be guaranteed few years at third stage, I'd be very tempted to seek for professorship. But then there's a problem, because then I'd have to complete a possible tenure, it's not like you can just jump ships at that stage. Then again, I might search for a comfortable position in SoCal then, maybe apply for professorship in some of the schools there. I figure the salaries are OK for professors in there. Teach the minimum amount of years, teach security, and then BAM, move to private sector with high salary. Maybe be some kind of high level advisor for companies. I don't know.
I would be intriqued, I don't know if it makes sense strategically. It would make for a comfortable life plus safety. If Id' get that professorship, I mean it's guanrateed and stable job. I would be interested, the question is, how long it would take. I don't know a lot of young professors... then again, there might be a fast track in here, since the security field is kind of open, so who knows, they might push the few people who actually do it for a fast track.
Then again, shoudl I get this one, I would secure the next 3 years of income and stuff to do. That's plenty of time to plan and see my options.
Damn, I really need to get this position. I need it. It's made for me. It's mine. If someone else gets it, that means they stole it from me.
