                at least in the US jobs aren't neccesarily close enough to take public transportation to

                        Gas prices have actually come down a good $0.35 in the last couple months but are still twice where they were a few years ago.

                          Only if you think people pay more for goods and services because companies have raised prices to cover advertising costs. If advertising increases sales volume then gross profits may increase by more than those advertising costs and there would be no need to raise prices, you may in fact lower them.

                                In Houston, we have a grand total of one line along which we can take a train through the city (North-South). Getting an East-West line is really politically contraversial, and likely won't happen for years...
