FIFA hates andean nations (I am not sure if this is about sports or not)

Some coincidence the limit is 2,500 metres and not 2,000.
Indeed... I'm thinking Mexico's football association may have had something to do with that .
“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
- John 13:34-35 (NRSV)
Playing over 2500 mts is our advantage, our only chance to win is making our opponents play at altitudes in which they can barely breath and run, we know we suck, if we have to play all the matches at sea level now, then andean countries will never make it to the world cup, and the teams will always lose at libertadores cup
You still have some advantage. Runners train in the mountains so that they would adapt to scarce oxygen and get a boost when they return to sea level. Andean footballers should have the same bonus when playing on sea level. You do lose the bonus of having opponents asphyxiate on your turf though.
People from high altitude will actually perform better at lower altitude since they have a higher oxygen carrying capacity in their blood plus their lungs are more efficient. Where this hurts for high elevation countries is that games bring lots of tourists. Tourists who rent hotel rooms, buy food at restaurants, buy nick-nacks, etc... It cuts them out of the tourist trade from these matches but it does, at least, have some valid medical reason.

2,500 meters is the commonly accepted height at which altitude sickness becomes a possible health hazard. Read any climbing book for proof.
Believe me, if the commonly accepted height had been 2,000 metres or if the Aztec Stadium had been above 2,500 there never would have been a ban.
Seems more reasonable to allow for schedule readjustments so that players can acclimatise in the uprun to a game at high altitude.
