And obviously he's never been through the Atlanta metro area or Savannah in Georgia. The other parts of Georgia (with the possible exception of Athens and possibly Valdosta), I'll give him .

Well I go through rich Birmingham suburbs. I drive on 75 mostly, I've gone on the road that goes pretty much from Chattanooga straight to 40. I stopped at a gas station for direction's to a friend's grandparents house and the owners of it got really scared for my life because apparently you can make a few wrong terms and end up in crazy inbred land. I even had the offer of getting escorted over to their place because of the apparent danger.

The GA part is the tiny bit of 59. When I first started making the drive, there wasn't even cell phone coverage.

Any place were the majority of the "fine dining" consists mainly of Waffle House and Denny's isn't advanced. That knocks out large sections of the south.

Apocalypse, The I-75 corridor from Knoxville to Chattanooga is indeed much more backward than the I-65 corridor through Nashville where I live. I have lived in East Tennessee and I can see where one would think that it is definately behind Birmingham. However, Areas just south of Nashville (Williamson County and city of Franklin) totally blow away anything that any part of Alabama ever thought of having. The Nashville metro area is on the cutting edge of the "New South" and is a major draw for Corporate HQ's (EX: Nissan just moved their North American headquarters from Southern California). This is not to say that their are not rural parts of the state that are still stuck in their own time warp, but nowhere near as many as Alabama.

Also, the Tiftonia area of Georgia, which lies on the edge of the north Georgia mountains, is not very representative of Georgia eithier. I would add Columbus, Augusta, and Savannah to Imrans list also of parts of Georgia that far surpass most of Alabama (well...Columbus might as well be in Alabama in some ways, but still).

It is amazing the way that some people still stereotype the South. I have been in parts of rural Pennsylvania and New York that are just as "backwards" as rural Southern states. The fact is that there is a difference in standard of living between Urban/suburban and rural, but the differences between north and South have faded.

Oh...Oerdin..Waffle House is casual dining...Cracker Barrell is where we go on those special occasions.

Oh I am aware...I was just defending Bama a bit.

I know Penn is very sdrawkcab also. Quite a few people from college are there.

I am sure everyone can agree there is really nothing salvageable from Mississippi. I have a friend in an abusive relationship in Hattiesburg that I kinda want to fix before I start the whole active army thing.

However, Republicans view individuals and evil, and so want government intrusion into their lives: warrantly police searches, surveillence; telling us how and when to have sex.

In comparison, Democrats assume individuals are virtous and so want more civil liberties. Dems, however, do not trust corporations, and so want larger government to regulate and oversee corporate activities.

This is why Democrat and Republican are not descriptions of ideology, but descriptions of two power-hungry groups of people with often disparate opinions on things.

Many of us believe in a truly smaller government, and do not believe in this public morality bull$#^%. The government doesn't have a $#%$@# right to tell me whether I can or cannot buy a $%#%@!$ dildo for my girlfriend, nor whether I can go in from the front or the back. (The Schiavo thing I agree was silly to put in there, the government has some say there as it's killing another human being, even if it is simply letting someone die.) As long as it does not have the potential to harm others, I see no reason to permit the government a say.

Alabama advanced? I'm sorry...that's just too hilarious!
My thoughts exactly. I grew up in Memphis and my parents grew up Birmingham and many of my relatives live in Biringham, Mongomery, and Mobile. Eastern Tennesse is definatly less advnaced than Birmingham which is one of the few advanced parts of Alabama.

                        sounds right
A lot of Republicans are not racist, but a lot of racists are Republican.

Sorry man, but I've spent to much time in the south. Waffle house is all to often the be all and the end all of southern dinning at least in the rural areas which make up most of the south. It's crap.

Yeah lots of that is going on because the popularity of California has made real estate prices so high and they've figured out the south is such a **** hole no one wants to be there so land prices are practically at give away levels. Being a **** hole helps you attract businesses looking for low costs but it means you are still a **** hole. Sorry if the truth hurts.

I liked California when I was there, but now I find myself hoping for the day it slides into the ocean.
