  • Babylon 5: The Lost Tales DVD to be released July 31

The Babylon 5 universe story is going to be continued through a direct to DVD release entitled Babylon 5: The Lost Tales, Vol. 1 "Voices in the Dark".

The DVD is going to feature essentially two vignettes which link together and continue the Babylon 5 story and will feature Bruce Boxleitner (Sheridan), Tracy Scoggins (Lochley), and Peter Woodward (Galen) from the original shows. Depending on the success of the original release, more of these productions may be made in the future. The US DVD release (region 1) release will be this July 31st, and the region 2 DVD release will be this September 3rd.

Video diaries including some sneak peeks at what will be in the first two stories have now been released. While spoilers are involved, other than who is fighting whom in one space battle scene, the spoilers shouldn't give that much away on their own.

Here's a link to a video diary featuring JMS in which he talks about the special effects behind the release and how they are done. You get a glimpse of various CGI graphics that will appear in the release as well as a brief glimpse of a full fledged space battle.

Here's a link to an interview by Bruce Boxleitner. He reflects back on his role in the show and talks about what it was like to be back and in character again for the DVD's filming. You get to hear him deliver a variety of lines which should appear in the actual DVD, along with a couple of brief scenes he's in being filmed. (The movie is basically shot in green screen, so background elements are generally blank with the CGI effects filling in everything later.) I'm including both a link in Windows Media Player format and Quicktime (in that order).

Here's a link to a couple of the locations where you can preorder the region 1 DVD, along with getting a glimpse of the box art.

I'm definitely looking forward to this!
