"Cognitio ductus" .... I ain't no Latin genius, but
"congnitio" means "to become acquainted with" and
"ductus" means "leading" (i.e. an aquaduct leads water to a certain place).
So it must be something about leading your knowledge ... I guess.

The National Youth Leadership Forum (abbreviated: NYLF pronounced: Nilf) is a tuition-based 501 (c)(3) non-profit educational organization founded in 1992 that runs career/leadership programs for high school students throughout the United States, with the goal of career preparation. NYLF has an active online community of current and future participants as well as alumni. These people make up the NYLF Message Boards and NYLF IRC. The NYLF Message Boards were started by several alumni following the NYLF/Tech 2002 program, and have since been officially owned and maintained by NYLF staff. NYLF IRC is an alumni-run server and is not officially affiliated with NYLF.

In order to attend the NYLF program, a student must be nominated by a teacher with an official NYLF ID or an alumni of the program. There are also various scholarships awarded for students attending each session, for the price to attend is more than $2,000.
Sounds quite good actually, if you're into diplomacy and stuff.

It's like a who's who book...you pay to put something on a college application that colleges really just dismiss.

I really think that test scores (like SATs, GREs, ACTs, etc), play a much greater role most the time than anything else.

Letter's of recommendation and extra activities probably play the second greatest role.

Grades probably play the least role, which is as it should be.

When did grades separate from test scores?

Test scores in standardized test versus grades in courses. The grades are often inflated... and if they reflect anything positive it is that the student cares about their academics (it can also reflect mastery of the subject, but this is exceedingly rare in highschool). Test scores can just reflect how good the student is at taking tests, but also can reflect intelligience and/or mastery of the subject.

References can be the very best, but it is really only the case if the referrer is known.
