The current AI report sets out violations by Cuba, by Venezuela and by the U.S. There were just fewer interim reports listed in the overall report for Cuba and for Venezuela.

Is anyone complaining that the current AI report is inaccurate as to any of these countries? Looks pretty accurate to me.

When you think about it, the answer is pretty simple:

Relatively free societies present greater opportunities for dissent, independent reporting, and freedom of association; thus, it's much easier for AI to document rights abuses in those countries. In countries where people are afraid to speak out, in public or private, and teh press is controlled by the State or cowed into submission, such abuses are much harder to detect or authenticate.

So, ironically (and please note the accurate use of that word ), it is the very freedom of Western societies that lead to their overrepresentation on a list of rights abusers.
