It's still one organism so I win and you lose.

BTW, "(im)Perfection" has been done (as have many variations of it). Try somethin' original (and yes every variation of "Pervfection" has been done)

Let's go slowly for the kids in the back...

the oldest tree but also the oldest living non-clonal organism
Here are the specs of the statement in question:

Requirement: "the oldest tree" - singular
Fact: The Trembling Giant is "actually a colony" and not a single tree.

Requirement: "the oldest living non-clonal organism"
Fact: The Trembling Giant is a "colony" of "exact clones."

So yeah, it's older than Methuselah, by far. But it is emphatically NOT the oldest (singlular)(non-clonal) tree.

Is English not your primary language? Jeez.

The original objection wasn't to calling it the oldest tree, rather to calling ithe oldest living inhabitant (which would include all organisms).

So your facts are right but your objections are WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG!

And for what it's worth my primary language is Klingon.

          Cool!

I've been walking down a tree-lined path of about 20 of these on the way to work wondering what the hell they are, as they've been gradually blooming...

BTW, can we stop this decent and actually interesting thread from descending into the usual Polyesque bickering over the most pedantic and minor things...?

Boy, some people can create an argument out of anything.

I think that I will never see
A tree part of a colony
That's older than a single tree
And both will outlast you and me.

They are often planted in large cities because they are very tolerant of car exhaust and smog. Most ginkgoes one sees are male clones, females produces seeds that smell awful.
