  • I never realised that Jimmy Hendrix was influenced by The Who

and other British bands, until I saw part 1 of the BBC's new series on the history of rock at the weekend.

There is a long history of musical interchange between the US and UK, with ideas and styles bouncing back and forth across the atlantic, but it was great to see another of my heroes, Hendrix, was such an example.

It was hard not to be influenced by the Who in the 70s.
They were so big in the end of 60s early 70s....

He was also influenced by the Beatles, IIRC.

Hendrix, Who, Beatles, three of my favourites

He also copped some licks from Buddy Guy.
Hendrix utilized a lot of influences.

A lot of succesful pop/rock songs borrow other musician's succesful licks. The most famous example is probably 'Louie, louie'. How many times did you hear the 'Louie, Louie' riff in other songs?

                  It's not a ripoff; it's an homage!

Actually, Jimi and Buddy played together. Buddy was there for the hippie chicks. Jimi was filming Buddy to learn his stuff. Buddy felt like he got the better end of the deal.

Crack? I 'm not sure that free-base cocaine was popular currency in the 60's.
