Single player can be played with all of the advantages of TBS. Just pause the game when giving commands or pause when you want to review the battlefield. The difference is only important in MP where such pausing would naturally be frowned upon.

Ah... can you pause the game and give commands, a la Europa Universalis? I know in other (older) RTSs you could pause, but not give orders while paused.

I'd love it if you could do a pseudo-turn based system with Starcraft 2.

Yeah, I know a bunch of RTS games that specifically disallow giving orders while paused. This naturally gives the computer an advantage using units with special abilities, such as ghosts. I refused to play against a Terran AI for precisely that reason. I mean, I wouldn't mind having my entire fleet locked down at once if I could manage the same thing, but without the pause/orders thing...

You never played against any good players if the AI could scare you like that.

I almost bought Company of heroes today. But then I said to myself: "look, you bought AOE 1 and 2 and you didn't like them, you bought Starcraft and you didn't like it either, why would you like that game?" The only RTS's I enjoyed were the Close Combat series and the Total War games, which were half TBS, half RTS.

I have. It's not about being scared, it's about having abilities that I can't ever have no matter how good I get. No matter how fast I click, I can't lock down 8-12 ships literally at the same time because the UI isn't designed for it. I can fire 8-12 Yamato guns into anything and turn it into a fine powder though.

Unfortunately I may be mistaken. I've been playing a lot of Dawn of War and Total War and before that a lot of Total Annihilation but it's been years since I played SC. I can't remember the last RTS I've played that didn't allow giving orders while the game is paused.

If giving orders while paused isn't possible in SC2 I'll probably skip that purchase even though I love the atmosphere and gameplay balancing of SC.
