I like to see the wild flowers bloom in Anza Borrego Desert state park. When the rain comes to the desert every flowering plant tries to ram its reproductive cycle through a 2-3 week window so the normally dry desert suddenly becomes overwelmed with life. You literally can't step any where without stepping on flowers. The mountain goats, wild horse, deer, and other herbivores go crazy trying to fatten up and don't even bother worrying about the hordes of people with cameras trying to take their pictures. Millions of different flowers, big game, and mild weather make for a great camping experience especially if you have a good camera. Sometimes the desert really does bloom.

      Wildflower season

      Regular season

The bad lands seem to be even drier during the rest of the year but paradoxically the driest areas explode with life at the slightest hint of water. The plant life has evolved to jump the fastest when water is available.
