Nice. One of my group went to Japan last year. I want to try to work out a Europe or Japan trip next year.

This year I think the best I can do is Vermont or something (even DNP is in Newport News this year )

OH ya -- and the beauty is if I find I cannot take it all, we have the option of taking up to two weeks worth of extra pay instead.

My plan is to take the days off for now but if I build up too much ( and we are allowed to carry over up to our annual entitlement from year to year) the extra cash would be ok

          Not bad at all...

Mine are 37 days plus a strict 35 hour week, which is further eroded by the place virtually shutting down to go to the local pub with a beer garden every friday afternoon whenever there's good weather.

Not to mention I have the option of flexi time should I even wish to use it...

20 min walk to work, gym next door, parking on the street outside for £2.40 for the whole day. Which is great when I have a half day and come in for 8am - leave by 11:30am in the country by noon and all for £1.20...
Is it me, or is MOBIUS a horrible person?

            I work when I want/need to.

That adds up to about 45-50 hours a week.

Add that to 11 statutory holidays, 24 Fridays off and Stampede week when no one works anyway plus 4 days in Jasper at a conference and WOW -- I'll hardly ever be at work.

Oh and there was upside for everyone p-- The finance group lead and the janitor will all get the same amount of vacation for the same amount of experience.

                Pretty sweet setup, Flubber.

                I'm envious.

Already, it's tough to set up Friday and Summer meetings with European colleagues. Might as well go to a 4-day work week.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

Kid won't even bother to try to refute that-- My concern in a communist society isn't the level of vacation--- I just wonder about levels of income, personal choices and freedoms

Hmm Japan are offering postgrads (like me) at my uni trips over there to see how their research goes, maybe I should have a stab at that...

Yay. I just booked my flight. Does anybody live in Geneva or the surrounding area and want to meet up sometime between June 5th and June 15th?

Or, if you live in Torino, I'll be at Chamonix-Mont Blanc on June 10 for the day.

It in no way is equal to freedom and I do not think you can assert that in anything other than a somewhat joking way

On the other hand, even though I envy you, there's no such thing as a free lunch. Management is probably setting up the company to falter in the long term. Or at least to pay you less handsome salaries.
