Vacations !! I feel European I get so much!

Our employer just unilaterally changed the vacation policy and it was all positive.

I went from 4 weeks funded by the employer (with a right to a 5th week unpaid) to now I get 6 weeks -- all paid time off .

Add that to 11 statutory holidays, 24 Fridays off and Stampede week when no one works anyway plus 4 days in Jasper at a conference and WOW -- I'll hardly ever be at work.

Oh and there was upside for everyone p-- The finance group lead and the janitor will all get the same amount of vacation for the same amount of experience.

Eek... 6 weeks = 30 days plus 11 plus 24 plus 5 plus 4 ... 74 vacation days out of 210 or so total workdays... you work less than 2 days out of 3 you lazy $#%#

You get a few more holidays than I do, but how the hell do you get all those Fridays off? You're virtually part time with those hours!

They call it "flex time" -- IN theory they added half an hour to our work day and close the offices two Fridays a month. But I work exactly the same hours as I did before the change. I used to work about an hour longer than our standard workday and now I work half hour longer.

God knows what hours I end up working - I usually take erratic lunchbreaks but often end up staying way over to sort stuff out. And usually knock off early on a Friday...my boss is cool but if I had a control freak of a boss (which often seemed to be the case in the past, especially in the labs) then I would think we would be having a few disagreements. It would be pointed out to him that my creative talents flow best when not regimented

I'm not sure whether Europeans generally get that much, Flubber. They certainly don't in the UK, on the whole.

30+11+24+5 = 70

5*52 = 260

I added in the extra 4 because Flubber clearly implied they were basically a vacation The 210 was entirely my mistake though. Still 74/260 is far too many vacation days
