While there are a lot of particles some of us would like to find, we haven't really found a new one for a while (I think the Top quark was the last). That was expected as well.
Currently, we expect to find the Higgs at CERN. In fact, if we don't, our understanding of fundamental physics will be shaken (or at least, my understanding would be).

For more serious:
Has the amount of energy in the entire universe been constant since the big bang? With all the distance between groups, clusters and galaxies, is it reasonable to assume that fluctuation of total energy amount is limited "locally" as well?
What exactly makes the postulate of dark energy necessary? If it isn't necessary, what makes it helpful?
