  • Riddle Me Ree- Historical Puzzles

    Many many eras before Sudoku, Jeffrey Archer novels and David Blunkett newspaper columns, plain folks had no television or radio or Nokia to while away the time either.

    They had riddles.

    Which may account for some of history's bloody battles and destructive warfare too.

    Anyway: here is one of history's earliest known riddles. The only ground rule:

    if you want to solve it, don't search the Interwebyahgleask for the answer.

    Should you cheat, somewhere a puppy is roasted for breakfast.

    Who becomes pregnant without conceiving ?
    Who becomes fat without eating ?

    Enjoy.
    Vive la liberte. Noor Inayat Khan, Dachau.

    ...patriotism is not enough. I must have no hatred or bitterness towards anyone. Edith Cavell, 1915

    I remember that riddle from way back when.

    Spoiler:
    I've heard of pregnant clouds, but still don't think I have ever heard anyone make reference to 'fat' clouds. :shrug:

      You should post one now.

      When we have laugh'd to see the sails conceive
      And grow big-bellied with the wanton wind;
      Vive la liberte. Noor Inayat Khan, Dachau.

        I would post, but I feel that knowing the answer from previous exposure does not make me a worthy winner.

        Anyway:

        What can run but never walks,
        What has a mouth but never talks,
        Has a bed but never sleeps,
        Has a head, but never weeps?
        One day Canada will rule the world, and then we'll all be sorry.

                Lacryma multa mihi, sed nulla causa est causa doloris,

                Coeli affecto vitam, sed gravis aer obest

                Many are the tears I give but there is no cause for grief;

                I strive for life in the sky, but the weighty air engulfs me.
