  • RIP Greensburg

Mother Nature done did a Katrina on a smaller scale, and about %95 of Greensburg, Kansas was laid waste by a 1 1/2 mile wide tornado.

    RIP Greensburg, pop 1500

    Tornado Alley SUCKS!

                they're calling it an F5 - 1 1/2 miles wide

my ******* nightmare, quakes never bothered me much but tornadoes (and we tend to get them at night here) freak me out.

and while on the subject - we got flooded last night and today. Dont know how many inches but we got hit by a storm last night that must have dumped 3-4 inched in a little over an hour. We live on a damned hill and still have trouble keeping water out of the basement

Probably too busy getting buried under rubble at the time.

they did get it on video, or at least they showed a tornado in the darkness and said it was the one that hit Greensburg (it hit around 9:45 pm so it was night time). If that was the tornado they got video of it before growing into an F5 monster, the tornado on the video wasn't that big, maybe F2 to F3.

we got nailed again last night, just a sheet of water for about an hour. The town we're close to got 16-18 inches over the weekend and we shared every bit of it And the reservoir built by the Corps of Engineers near our house was so full it went around the earthen dam - that was quite a sight. Worst rain since we've been here, almost 20 years. That was the first time that reservoir bypassed the dam.

I was watching a clip from Greensburg and there was a building that looked damn near untouched even though it was right there on the path of that thing. It may have been a grain silo, it was a large building and everything around it was either gone or in rubble.

I hope they rebuild with tornado proof buildings/underground, so the misery is not perpetuated.

Don't bet on it. People still rebuild their homes in Florida after a hurricane, people still want to rebuild New Orleans after the flooding, people still rebuild in Hawai'i after lava flows destroy everything, San Fransisco and Anchorage weren't abandoned after being destroyed by earthquakes.
