  • The Naming Of Parts- Will You Take It In Trade ?

As I was browsing through the Oxford Illustrated History Of Mediaeval Europe and contemplating playing Total War or Civ or Europa Universalis, it occurred to me that there were a lot of trade items named after the towns, cities or areas that produced them.

Then it occurred to me that the Apolyton History Forum would be the perfect place to try to make a list of all the trade goods named after places. We are after all an international bunch o' folks, and should be able to come up with a whole host of stuff that many of us won't have heard of.

So: not excluding the obvious, who's game for trying to get as many down as possible ?

Here's an uncommon one, I'd think:

    an Ulster.

A long loose-fitting overcoat (often belted) manufactured in Belfast by J. G. McGee & Co. .

Ulster was the name of the most northerly of the old kingdoms of Ireland.

    A small boys' ulster:

...patriotism is not enough. I must have no hatred or bitterness towards anyone. Edith Cavell, 1915

I'm now going to do some hurried research to see if I can legitimately include a Cleveland Steamer in this thread.

Only Germany's finest products are allowed to carry the name of a city/province:

      Frankfurter Würstchen:

      Nürnberger Rostbratwurst:

      Wiener Würstchen:

      Thüringer Rostbratwurst:

      Notice a trend?

Most French cheeses are named after the place that produces them.

Do a google maps research on any French cheese you know of. Chances are you'll find a village. Though sometimes, you'll find an entire region (such as with Brie).
