  • California Highway Ramp collapses in Oakland

A Tanker loaded with gasoline caught FIRE , later causing the ramp to collapse. The ramp actually had parts of it melt in the intense heat.

We know that gasoline can't melt steel, though.

The ramp isn't pure steel. Depending on what it is constructed of, some of the materials could have been destroyed by the heat and what remained collapsed under its' weight.

Correct, and Concrete will melt, after all, aggregates naturally melt in Volcanoes, becoming Lava

But the important sequence of events was possible because of a chain of events

Flames shot 200 feet in the air and the heat was intense enough to melt part of the freeway and cause the collapse, but the truck's driver walked away from the scene with second-degree burns.

            No other injuries were reported.
Much better than it might have been.

MRT144, I never been to California but have studied some construction practices as that is my favorite subject, being in the Industry. I would imagine it is a matter of necessity to go up vs out, as in more highways, the only resolution is "stacking" and in a region known for shifting subterrain, even though this wasn't earthquake related, still shows vulnerability of the system

                  Most unfortunate

Have you every heard of a cutting torch, welding, and air arcing. I worked at a Naval Shipyard for 30 year, the h3ll metal will not burn.

Have you ever heard of sarcasm?
Christianity: The belief that a cosmic Jewish Zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree...

It most certainly can if you get a blast furnace effect. Basically a relatively small hole where fresh air is sucked in stocking flames to a near fire store like temperature. Then there is the fact that most "steel" is actually some sort of steel alloy each of which is slightly different from others and the manufacturing process isn't as uniform as we'd like to think.

I only PHd that because there seemed to be a fair number of people who bought the whole 9/11 conspiracy theories that jet fuel wouldn't burn hot enough to melt steel. Nutters.
