have to agree with you. Though isn't Oerdin a Ford defender and not GM. Or does he defend them both.

I own a Toyota now. god help me. I never thought I would go away from buying american.

What proportion of Toyota production is in the US versus Japan (or elsewhere)?

My Tacoma was assembled in the USA, so...that's my "out" on buying an import.

I can't believe that nobody here is worrying about Midwestern unionized autoworkers losing their jobs because of Toyota.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

You had to DanS that "unionized" bit.

Unions are weak, they can die.

                      Assembling. Not much manufacturing.

The important work is done in Japan. Not a unionized workforce. Probably exploited.

So sticking the bits of metal together isn't as big a part of the process as making them in the first place?

Yes, it is. Not all manufacturing is foundry work.
