Which is faster/better: getting back into shape doing cardio or doing weights?
    What?

I'm not sure, but probably the latter. Doing cardio burns fat while you're doing cardio. Building muscle raises metabolism 24/7. If you're out of shape, you might not be able to do enough cardio volume to make it more effective than weights.

Besides, an intense enough weights-workout can be very cardio-intensive as well.

If you need to get back into shape, I'd suggest 30 minutes of compound weights exercises followed by 30 minutes cardio, twice a week to begin with.

Besides, why would one go to a gym to do cardio? Plenty of parks to run or bike in, and pools to swim in.

I've noticed a lot of gyms like to be a bit too warm these days, people get sweating and think they have had a good workout.

because if you fall in the park you could be out there, helpless for a while.

Why go to the gym to lift weights? Plenty of rocks, cars etc to lift..........

The thing is, weights help shed weight much better than cardio does.
Better, as in gaining muscle while losing fat, but slower. Also some people, like women, are not interested in gaining muscle.

And weights require more discipline. Remembering what you did, increasing weight, actually understanding what each machine works, and rotating muscle groups. Or you could say screw all that and just hit the treadmill

                              Absolute BS.

People underestimate the power of proper cardio in shedding weight. My dad dropped 50 pounds over 6 months just by buying a stationary bike and biking 25 mins a day.

I drank a few too many beers and started packing on the pounds. Can't stand the gym, and there's lots of good scenery around here, so the bike it was.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891
