  • MP3 Players

I need a new one. Preferably one with a lot of memory but you can still run with it on.

I kinda would like one with AM radio tuner too, but I don't expect to be able to get that so whatever.

Eh, the creative ones seem better. The 8GB ones are also the price of 30 GB players so I also feel like I might as well get those.

Is Zune decent at all, and can I run with it?

Zune is good, but no you can't really run with it.

The reason the 8GB are the price of a 30GB is because the 8GB are flash. That's much, much better for running, and more durable.

Do you have 8GB of music? Are you ever planning on it?

I'll probably just get the Creative Zen V Plus 8 GB.

I kinda miss how you could change out the batter in the older Creatives. I am going to have an 18 hour or so drive in May.

I ended up going with the Creative Zen V Plus 8 GB. Too bad the belt clip was extra.

Just got an Archos 404. Sweet. 30 Gigs at same price point as Zune or Ipod video. The cool thing about it is you can use it as a DVR if you buy a $79 DVR (Amazon or wlamart) stand plus the DVR stand allows you to plug in an USB external hard drive for extra storage.

Just finished loading about 2 gigs of music, South Park 1st season, Shawn of the Dead, Dodgeball, and a bunch of SNL celebrity Jeopardy clips.

Just curious, because mp3s really aren't a part of my world:

I'd guess I have maybe 500 cds. If I wanted to put my whole collection on an mp3 player, how much memory would I need?

I've remember hearing somewhere that "a meg a minute" is a good thumbnail rule for mp3s? Is that true? (In that case, I have my answer: 500 cds x 45 minutes = 22,500 megs = 30 gig player).

Anyway, since we have a thread on this, I thought I'd ask. Thanks.

Yeah, you're about right. Might want to bump it up to the next level, though, just in case.

It depends on the compression rate you're using. For MP3 players, 192 kbps is a good choice, IMO. Of course, it also depends on the length of the song. Take, for example, "Funeral" by Arcade Fire. I encoded the album's ten songs @ 192 kbps. So the album takes about 65 MB of disk space.
