  • List your favorite recent Movies/DVDs

yup, just as the title says... Im looking for some new good movies I could rent...
From the older ones I already seen most good ones I guess, thus new...

Would be good if you also can state any reason why you liked that movie... or if you are too lazy for that just list it

    Here is my (short) list:
Crank - just cool action movie... dont expect any realism

Mr Bean on Vacation - well everyone knows Mr. Bean funny stuff

Robinsons (dunno exact english title) - well its for kids, but really funny (if you like cartoons)
If its no fun why do it? Dance like noone is watching...

The Departed - great gangster film
300 - slightly disappointing but OK as an action film
Hot Fuzz - British comedy film, may not travel well.....

Oh and the reason I like it? It's pure emotion. It's just weird, I like weird. I think the violence is pretty much the key element the story evolves around, but then again, ti kidn of fits the story and the name, irreversible. Some things are irreversible, once done, the damage is done forever.

I like the pure emotion, there's few excellent scenes, where they just wander around this weird underground S/M gay dungeon, and it's a long shot man.. They like long shots in that movie, for example the scene where the girl is abused, it's one shot, a long disturbing, uncomfortable 10 minute shot.

Yes Irreversible was great Just love the somewhat realistic cruelty to it... Do you know any other movies that are like it?

Hm, I guess so far Im going to try Hot Fuzz out... I somehow like british humor (not always but often )
If its no fun why do it? Dance like noone is watching...

Movies that has the level of cruelty in that kind of sense? Uhmm, nothing comes ot my mind right now, I'm sure there are such films though. If you get to know, let me know as well.

I like Vincent Cassel a lot, he has been in good movies, like Irreversible, La Haine, Dobermann.. I like those movies, that's the ultimate Cassel trilogy .

La Femme Nikita, the original Nikita movie is great, so there's some nice French cinema out there.

Perhaps the similar kind of crushing reality, not cruelty but reality hitting your face was in the Requiem for a dream. That was a bit uncomfortable to watch. Also a good movie.

I don't see many new films because I'm such a tight arse. So for 2006 to current, I have only ONE film listed that I thought was excellent and worthy of recommendation: The Straight Story. No, it's not a film about sexual identity, but about an old man driving his ride on mower to visit his ill brother.

                          La Neuvaine, by Bernard Émond,

A movie made by an atheist (who have a formation in anthropology) about faith, identity(or the lack of), grieving, religion, the rural live and the urban live, etc...

I finally got myself nBSG season 2 (had to take the UK version, since they messed up the release here in Krautmania for stupid reasons I can't explain without getting into a lengthy rant).

The season is so damn great.
